The past few weeks have been great for VW dealers. Consumers who have been waiting for the “cash for clunkers” program to go into effect finally got their chance to get a sizeable rebate towards the purchase of a new, more efficient vehicle.
At first, the program seemed a bit shaky as the federal government ran out of its first $1 billion allotment dedicated to purchasing clunkers. Within the next couple weeks, Congress pumped in another $2 billion to accommodate the consumer demand.
Some consumers are just excited to splurge a little on something since the last couple years have been so tight financially. “That’s what energizes people, is the idea that they spend money – everything goes in a circle. Everyone has more fun. For the last 20 months all we’ve talked about is ‘woe is me,’ and hopefully this stimulus has got the woe is me over!” explained Randy Price, one VW dealer.
As a result of the federal program, July was the best month for auto sales in more than a year. August can be even better.
