This parade is one of the oldest and most revered parades in Pennsylvania because of its heritage and popularity. • Judges often score the performances of the dancers and musicians during the parade. Acts must adhere to a strict set of rules and guidelines to get a decent score. Costumes are also taken into consideration when scoring the various acts.
• The first official Mummer’s Parade in Philadelphia was on January 1, 1901. There was about $1,725 available for prize money for that event.
• There have only been 22 weather-related postponements since 1922. In 1919 and 1934, the Mummer’s Parade was canceled due to WW1 and the Great Depression, respectively.
