Today, your used car dealer Pennsylvania would like to pass along a news story that states traffic deaths in the United States have fallen to the lowest rates since 1994. How’s that for some good news?
The study released the findings for 2007, stating that 41,059 people were killed in highway accidents during the year. That’s more than 1,600 fewer vehicle-related deaths than were reported in 2006. It’s also the lowest number of deaths since 1994, more than a decade ago. That year, 40,716 people were involved in fatal vehicle-related accidents.
While the large number of deaths on the highway is still heartbreaking, it does show a promising trend of smarter drivers and safer cars. Auto manufacturers are making great advancements in vehicle safety which is contributing to the safer roadways. But there are other reasons for the lower number. “Thanks to safer vehicles, aggressive law enforcement and our efforts,” explained Mary Peters, the Transportation Secretary, “countless families were spared the devastating news that a loved one was not coming home.”
Individual states are also happy about the decline in traffic deaths. Pennsylvania’s traffic-related deaths fell from 1,525 to 1,491 (2.2 percent) and New Jersey’s statistics dropped from 771 to 724 (6.1 percent). California had the biggest decline, however, with 266 fewer deaths in 2007 than in 2006.
