During a time when nearly every other automaker on the planet is reporting dwindling sales and tough times, Hyundai Automotive actually increased its production last month.
The Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama produced more than 15,450 units in the month of March. For the first quarter, that brings the automaker’s total number of produced units to 64,431. The numbers for March were the highest reported production numbers for the manufacturing plant since October.
One article says actions like this put Hyundai Automotive on a path to overtake Toyota. Hyundai cars are generally less expensive than comparable Toyota models and the Korean automaker has a good mix of cars from which consumers can choose. In addition to that, Hyundai’s stock has surged more than 30 percent this year alone which indicates that the market is gaining more confidence in the automaker and its abilities.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for Hyundai to catch up with Toyota,” said Chang In Whan, the president of KTB Asset Management Company in Seoul, South Korea. “Hyundai should make the most of this crisis to create its own opportunities over the next one to two years.”
